“Lattice gauge theory for fractional Chern insulators” - Professor John McGreevy-UCSD

The parton construction (also known as the projective or slave particle construction) is a useful theoretical device for understanding states of matter where the constituent particles fractionalize. In particular, it provides candidate wave-functions and information about the stability of the state, and it offers access to neighboring states and the critical theories of the associated transitions. In this talk, I'll discuss the extension of this construction to fractional Chern insulators (two dimensional topological insulators without time-reversal invariance) and their nearby states.
