In this talk I will describe some of our recent theoretical work studying out-of-equilibrium electronic and magnetic excitations in ultra-thin film transition metal oxides.  Thin film pyrochlore iridates may have a topological magnon band structure that exhibits a sign change of the thermal Hall conductance as a function of temperature.  Thin film nickelates under a periodic light drive exhibit a complex band evolution (including topological changes) that depend sensitively on the number of electronic bands included.  I will also describe a time-dependent DMFT study of electronic relaxation following a quench in the hopping parameters of a mass-imbalanced Hubbard model.
