Physics and Applications of High Brightness Beams

Date:
Monday, March 28, 2016 - 9:00am to Friday, April 1, 2016 - 6:00pm

Prof. James Rosenzweig is organizing a scientific workshop, “The Physics and Applications of High Brightness Beams,” in Havana, Cuba, March 28-April 1, 2016. This event is the latest in the series of workshops sponsored by the International Committee on Future Accelerators. This year’s version will have several themes specific to both UCLA and Cuba.  It will extend recent examinations of the 5th generation light source — a merging of novel, new acceleration techniques based on plasmas, lasers and intense beams with free-electron lasers (FELs); the workshop will emphasize biomedical applications that motivate much of Cuban science; it will celebrate the achievements of UCLA Prof. Emeritus Claudio Pellegrini in enabling the paradigm-shifting scientific instrument X-ray FEL; and initiate discussions on the a significant infrastructure initiative aimed at pan-Caribbean scientific cooperation — the Cuban Light Source.
